Why are JPEGs not the best format to send a photo to a printer?

Color Space vs ICC Profile

Since offering the best quality prints is our goal, it all starts out with the image itself. The highest resolution, widest color depth and uncompressed file formats will yield the best prints. Thus we prefer to receive images in the ProPhoto RGB color space, the largest standard color space available for photo printing. We further recommend sending us your images in TIFF, PSD, Lightroom Original or other non-compressed formats. We prefer NOT to get sRGB JPEG files as they are compressed in both resolution and color depth.
