Tiles, Mosaics and Murals

Tiles and Mosaics

Tiles and Mosaics can be created with the same technique as Metal Prints <Link to Metal Prints> instead of transferring photos to Metal we can transfer photos to Tile.   Typically the tiles are 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, 12×12 inches in size.  They can be used as coasters or with a proper mounting, hung on the wall or placed on a table top stand.

What is perhaps even more interesting is that mosaic images can be created from multiple tiles, each one with a portion of the image on it. The tiles can then be assembled and set by a mason to form a mosaic that can be a tile backsplash in the kitchen, fireplace, bathroom etc. The resultant mosaic can literally be any size as long as the image has enough resolution to be expanded into the specified number and size of tiles.

Sample Sizing and Prices

The pricing is for an individual tile of the specified size.  For Mosaics, where the image is broken up into individual tiles, there will be a layout and diagram fee assessed in addition to the individual tile printing fee.  Mosaics costs will be quoted once we see the image and understand how you want it mapped to the tiles. There is no charge for the estimate.  If accepted we will supply you with the printed tiles and a diagram of how the tiles need to be assembled into the mosaic along with directions on how to install the tiles.

Murals

Murals are normally very large prints with at least a 1:2 or greater aspect ratio.  They are made when the photographer creates a panoramic image. This is an image created by taking multiple overlapping photos and stitching them together to create a large high-resolution panoramic single image

To get the dramatic impact of such a print it needs to be printed large.  Since the resolution of the image is high, as it was created from multiple images, this can be done with great results.

 Size and Pricing

Murals are typically specified in feet not inches. Usually they start at 2 feet by 4 feet and go up from there.   We have (4) 6 feet by 10 feet Canvas Gallery Wrapped Murals hanging at the Aperture Academy Gallery in San Jose, CA.

We have created Murals from Fine Art Photo Paper and Canvas.  However, we find that Gallery Wrapped Canvas Murals are the most economical, simply because no exterior frame or glass is needed. Many times the frame and glass cost more than the print.

Mural costs will be quoted once we see the image and very that it can be printed at the size you request. There is no charge for the estimate.
